Darkness
Title: Blind Guardian
Fandom: Assassin's Creed, "Modern Day" Gotham/Batman
Character(s): Altaïr and Ivy
Challenge Prompt: Darkness
Summary: Altaïr cannot see in the dark.
Disclaimer: I don't own; not making money; don't sue.
Rating: PG (for mention of wanting to murder someone)
The usually stoic and calm Arabian cursed softly in his native tongue as he stubbed yet another toe into yet another wall within his path. He had never had such a problem like this before. He swore that when he got out of this darkened hellhole he would brutally murder the one responsible for this cruel trick.
He was not bluffing.
The maze seemed to stretch on forever and the assassin had no clue whether he was heading in the right direction or not. For all he knew he was heading towards a deathtrap.
It was not too much longer after his tenth toe stub that he heard a peculiar noise some distance in front of him. Give him an opponent and even blind-folded he would be able to defeat the other. But in this total darkness with nothing to fight but his own fantastic fears it was not so easy to get along with the blindness. Yet the noise was easily distinguishable after a few more passing moments: it was a young woman cursing at an annoying villain that was unfortunately not within range of Altaïr's blade.
"Ivy," he whispered into the darkness. He heard a startled noise, a stumble, another quiet curse, and finally the sound of someone light approaching. He winced for the former three.
"Altaïr?" he heard her call out to him. He whispered to her for her to follow his voice back to its source. After a moment he felt rather than saw another person approach him and a second after that he literally felt her touch him across the cheek with a stray hand. He did not shy away and the hand left soon enough. Thinking nothing of it, he acted normally.
"I can't see," he informed her. A beat passed, then he sighed. "It's dark here, too dark to see by. For once, you have me by advantage." She had been like this for almost all her life; she had had much more time to adjust to the darkness than he.
She gave a frustrated little noise that sounded suspiciously amused at the same time but kept quiet about it. If she wanted to laugh at him and his dour mood than so be it. But he really was going to murder the sick bastard who had not only placed him in this place, but her as well.
It was odd when, in a reversal of roles, Ivy took the assassin by the hand and began to lead him away. Trusting to her judgment he let her lead him completely. Despite her usual complaints of being clumsy not once did Altaïr stub his toe after joining up with Ivy.
He was relieved when what seemed by a miracle the two of them manged to find their way out of the incomprehensible maze. He blinked at the blinding sunlight with an ironic smirk across his face. He was thankful she did not sense it and question him for it.
Now. About that assassination...
